Therapeutic Book Club

Taking care of ourselves as human creatures is never easy, but for us autistic and AuDHD folks, it can be significantly more challenging. Luckily, there are some great resources by other autistic advocates and educators, which we can learn from. One of my recent favorites is Megan Anna Neff's 2024 book Self-Care for Autistic People—so I figured, why not host a book club so that we can experience this book together in autistic community?

What: In this therapist-hosted book club that meets 6 times over 3 months, we will read, process, and discuss Dr. Neff's book together, taking time to learn and integrate her insights, and apply and evaluate her tips for caring for ourselves—physically, emotionally, mentally, and relationally. There will be plenty of options within this group's format for you to engage with the material and one another. In between session meetings, you'll have the option to participate in an online discussion board to enhance learning and meaning-making. Synchronous mouth words are not the only way to learn and share information in this group!
Where: Virtual
When: Six Saturdays, from November 2024-January 2025—

November 9th & 16th, 3-4:30 pm
December 7th & 21st, 3-4:30 pm
January 4th & 18th, 3-4:30pm
Why: To build autistic community while focusing on a therapeutic topic (self-care) in a concrete way that moves beyond neurotypical abstractions.
Who: This group is for autistic adults (18+) of all ages, genders, and sexualities. Having had your autism professionally verified is not necessary; self-identified autistic people and those who are questioning whether they may be autistic are welcome in this space.
How: If you think you might be interested in joining, please fill out this HIPAA compliant interest form to let me know. You'll also be able to review payment options and more on this form. No commitment necessary at this time!
